There were two things I really loved about Spirited Away. Haku and Chihiro's relationship, and soot sprites. I loved those little guys so much during their few scenes and it has been a long term goal of mine to make them. As you can see above, some of them also raided my folding star collection thinking they were sugar stars. Silly little things :D

These little guys are palm sized and made from a very soft yarn that I thought mimicked the cloud/soot effect nicely. Now, unlike most other version of these dolls you might find out there, mine have 2 noticeable differences.

- Firstly, their eyes are not felt or crocheted, they're buttons. What does this mean? Why is it important? Well, since they're buttons, you're not stuck with one expression! The eyes can be rotated and turned to almost a full 360 degrees each, but 180 shifts are easier to get to stay for long periods of time.

- Secondly, they have pose-able pipe cleaner arms. Hang them by them, carry them buy them, give 'em a good tug. Anything short of actually trying to rip them off and the arms will remain attached to the body. Just like the eyes, they have a full 360 degree rotation ability. I've sewn them on nice and tight so that they could be played with. :)

Time: Approx. 30-45 minutes per doll
Materials: Yarn, Poly-fil, Buttons, Pipe Cleaners, Paper, Thread

Thanks! And yes, that's what they've named them in English (seems logical enough for me). Their eyes aren't 'googly' though. They're buttons. They can be rotated so the doll will look just about anywhere you like. :D

Wow! Rotating buttons, are they? Very interesting. That's even more awesome!

Yes I do. I'll be making more as stock for my etsy store this week, so they should be listed again before Friday.

Thank you! :D I've seen them before as well and wanted to do something a little different from how I normally saw them made. I've already had someone buy a pair so she can have one in her office, and one to have hanging on her husband's stocking Christmas morning.

I agree so much with this idea that I have a soot sprite positioned on my monitor so that it looks at everything I do on the computer. :D
