Since I haven't had enough variety lately, I decided to jump back into video game dolls and what better series to start with then one of my all time favorites: The Legend on Zelda.

Oh Zelda....she was...to say she was a complicated doll would be a drastic understatement. Her hair...I think I glared at it for a week straight after I finished it. XP Her crown also broke three times while I was attaching it so yeah...not going to be making another one anytime soon. Aside from the difficulties I had with her I happy to say I'm extremely happy with how she turned out. :D Zelda is one of the very few dolls that has turned out almost exactly as I planned it in my concept sketch. Her accessories, while many, look great and I'm just very very happy with her end result.

Also, in case you couldn't guess, her design is based off the model in Twilight Princess.

Materials: Yarn, Thread, Poly-fil, Scuply, Paint, Buttons
Time: 10-12 hours

The sculpy jewellery was swell worth it. :) looks great! I love her wrapped braids too.

Thank you and yeah...I think in general figuring out how to replicate certain hair designs with yarn is my least favorite thing about making these dolls :x

Really? I like complicated hair the best! It's so much fun... I've just been experimenting with braids doing Katniss and Prim from Hunger Games, and I find it ridiculously satisfying.

It's more to do with juggling with the extra amounts of yarn. When I make hair, I make wefts and sew it on. This leaves me with extra yarn to work with sometimes if I need to make braids or complicated updo hair styles is all. With Zelda here for example I had to sew the yarn into the head on the top to get the proper effect and near the end it got quite difficult to pull the needle through. I was also left with too much hair at the bottom, and had to carefully cut sections away so it would be the right amount of thickness. So yeah bit tedious sometimes and hurts my fingers in the end. :/

I've just started reading the Hunger Games thanks to seeing the movie! I can see how making the intricate braid could be fun though. :)

Yeah, it does get hard to pull the needle through at the end, but it looks so cool :) Anyway. When I need to do braids I put in as many pieces as I need to start the braid and add pieces down the part (if there is one) or on the sides of the head to pull in, so the braid looks right but doesn't get to thick. Then I use a needle to fill in the gaps, sometimes sewing through the braid to look like hair is gathered into it. A weft would definitely be better for an updo though, I shall have to remember that.

And have fun with Hunger games! How awesome was the movie?

From looking at some of your dolls I could tell you use the more 'latch hook' style of adding hair individually. That would certainly look well for the braids, like you've said.

I'm enjoying the books. :) I just finished Catching Fire this morning and am not on Mockingjay. A friend let me borrow their audiobook so I can listen/enjoy the book and still get crafting done, lol. I really enjoyed the movie. :) It would have been better served with an 'R' rating though I think. Some of that shaky cam drove me crazy. :/

It's funny, you know, I didn't notice the shaky cam at all the first time around, but then some friends complained about it and when I saw the film again it drove me mad as well!

I raced through all the books in something crazy like a day and a half, reading them on my computer, and even then I was getting frustrated because I can't read and crochet at the same time. (I wish I could - I'd be able to craft while doing readings for my classes then!)

Thanks :) I always try to put as much detail on a doll as I can.

So awesomeee.. I never have the patience for making small amigurumi and tiny detail.. I noticed the number of hours you put in for each one.. much credit to you for that!
