Out of 3 new Final Fantasy dolls I created for my last convention, this was the one I loved from start to finish. His design didn't require any reference art assistance as I'd already known exactly what I was going to do. Even as simple as he is, I really feel I've captured the essence of Black Mage as a class here. Another minor new technique used here is the double layering of his cloak, which mostly just involved having it be in two separate sections; with the bottom part not going flush up to the head.

I love this doll from top to bottom and he's proof that while complex design are lovely, simple is good for a reason as well. :)

Time: 2-3 hours
Materials: Yarn, thread, scuply, paint, poly-fil, poly beads, buttons

Thanks, I'm glad you like it, but I don't release the patterns for any of my dolls. Partly because I don't write down my patterns as I make dolls, just make the shapes as needed, but mostly because I see them as artistic creations due to the time I spend designing each one.

I am, however, more than happy to help you try and design your own. :) If you know how to make bodies then you certainly have the skill to make a shape like that hat I made here. You use the same magic circle technique -or working in the round if you prefer- and slowly increase as needed to create your desired shape, in this case a cone. After you have that done, make the brim separately by working in the round once more, and then attach both to the top of the doll.

OH wow, this is just adorable! Love the staff detail! If there was one thing you could add to give it an extra something...it would be to add the striped pants that some of the black mages tend to have (Think Vivi from 9 or the black mages from FF: Tactics). But that's an extra thing that it doesn't need to be awesome.

Thanks ^_^ I know what you mean, but remember, I don't do pants. :P So I think it might look a bit funny.

What if you made it just like...a bag..of striped cloth that would come up to where the robe breaks...idk...I remember that pants look weird and even bag-pants might look a bit silly.
